Wellness at Jewish Senior Life

At Jewish Senior Life, wellness is more than a program; it’s a way of life. Our communities are designed to support mind, body, and spirit, helping each resident thrive uniquely. From physical fitness and nutrition to cognitive stimulation and emotional connection, our wellness services meet the whole person’s needs.

We value the overall health and well-being of our residents. In addition to the physical exercise classes offered at our facilities, we provide mental wellness activities. These include meditation, massage therapy, cognitive exercise, discussion groups, nutrition classes, and aromatherapy. While these may be less physical than the exercise classes offered, they’re just as important to maximize our quality of life.

Our Wellness Centers are great places to stay fit, active and engaged!

We encourage residents to participate in an organized class, as exercising with a friend or partner will enhance safety.

Our wellness centers, located in the Hechtman II and Meer Apartments on the West Bloomfield campus and at Teitel and Prentis Apartments on the Oak Park campus, are equipped with state-of-the-art, senior-friendly fitness machines for a variety of workouts.

Senior Exercise Classes

We’re proud to offer classes to enhance everyday well-being of our residents, including:

  • Balancing exercises for seniors
  • Walking groups
  • Tai chi
  • Qigong
  • Yoga, including chair yoga
  • Meditation
  • Massage therapy
  • Mental exercises
  • Discussion groups
  • Nutrition classes
  • Aromatherapy

These classes have emotional benefits as well, educating and improving wellness for everyone. They provide socialization opportunities for our residents to visit with their friends while improving their overall health. All fitness levels are welcome, and classes are designed with modifications in mind.

We’re proud to welcome Powerback Rehabilitation to JSL. It brings on-site Outpatient Rehabilitation Therapy Services and enhanced wellness programming. Through this partnership, residents can access a full range of rehabilitation services right within our community:

Physical Therapy

Helps individuals recover strength, coordination, and movement following injury or illness.

  • Mobility and gait training
  • Posture and balance support
  • Exercise to increase endurance
  • Pain management and wound care

Occupational Therapy

Empowers individuals to maintain independence in daily routines.

  • Training in dressing, bathing, and eating
  • Memory and cognitive integration
  • Use of adaptive tools and techniques
  • Exercises for flexibility and coordination

Speech Therapy

Supports speech, cognition, and swallowing function.

  • Recovery of language and memory skills
  • Non-verbal communication tools
  • Strengthening muscles used for speaking and eating
  • Diet recommendations to individual needs

Age In Motion® Wellness Program

Powerback’s Age In Motion® is a holistic program designed to promote healthy aging through:

  • Virtual and in-person exercise classes
  • Wellness tips and resources
  • Personalized milestone tracking
  • Support from a team of enthusiastic specialists

This program complements JSL’s existing wellness offerings, adding more tools and energy to support your journey toward vitality and well-being.
