WINDOWS

WINDOWS

I enjoy looking out of my windows at home. Birdwatching is a great hobby.  In my yard the bird feeder is a popular hangout, visited by so many colorful birds, and in particular families of cardinals. And when the sun sets, I watch young deer try to lick and empty the birdfeeder.  There’s a whole world of magic to view from my side of the window.  I especially enjoy the sunshine rising in the east that colors the morning sky as I ready myself in anticipation of the day. Spring is here and the season is reflected in the buds on the changing trees. It’s a feeling of relaxation in my little place on earth that brings me comfort.

Have you discovered WindowSwap? I went to the website and read a bit about the people who came up with this meditative way of traveling around the world using our computers.

WindowSwap is here to fill that deep void in our wanderlust hearts by allowing us to look through someone else’s window, somewhere in the world.”

“WindowSwap is a place on the internet where people from around the world share the view from their windows to help someone else relax, focus, meditate and travel without moving.”

Let’s travel without moving for now. Let’s window swap.

I played their Music Video and was struck by how calming it felt to view our extraordinary world through the windows of ordinary people. They refer to this as a “worldwide collaborative art project.” The video includes 50 window views from around the world set to an eclectic jazz composition by Swiss musician Anicia Kohler. Interpreted by Harpist Julie Campiche and her husband, Bassist Emmanuel Hagmann, featuring Digital Choir “Vignettes at Home.” Check this out:

You can play around on this website for $5 a month or $50/year and have some fun during a snowy day in West Bloomfield, or a rainy night in Oak Park, or just because I’ve now learned about this discovery and shared it with you. You can select the location, climate and weather. You’ll be delighted and enjoy a glimpse into unknown backyards, city streets or river vistas. And you can upload 10 minutes of your own view and share it with the world.

I’m thinking it could be great fun to upload views from JSL residential apartments in West Bloomfield. Residents often enjoy seeing the abundance of green space with calming views of swans, geese, herons, sand cranes and wild turkeys on parade through their windows. On our Oak Park campus we enjoy high rise views of the city streets, and colorful buildings and cars during sunrise or sunset, or the way the birds fly in formation that truly is magical.  I’m excited for you to enjoy these views of the world.  Let me know what you think about window-swap.com. Special thanks to Marcy for sharing this wonderful place with me.

Happy Purim all you Kings and Queens!

Shabbat Shalom.

WHY WE REMEMBER

Why can a single melody from years ago unlock a long-buried memory, while a life-altering trauma can disappear without a trace? These puzzles lie at the heart of one of the mind’s greatest mysteries: memory. I notice that working and living at Jewish Senior Life, memory becomes more than just a personal experience; it becomes a communal project. Stories echo through shared meals, card games and hallway conversations, connecting us

Yom HaShoah 2025: Memory in an Age of Denial

As we observe Yom HaShoah this year, the haunting echoes of the Holocaust feel closer than ever—not because of our proximity to the past, but because of the growing shadows of denial and indifference in the present. For decades, we’ve
