Yesterday, Temple Israel was the target of a violent crime directed at the Jewish community. Thanks to the swift response of law enforcement, the situation was quickly brought under control and the individual responsible was neutralized. Most importantly, we are grateful to report that everyone in our community is safe.
At the time of the incident, our staff immediately activated our safety protocols. Our campus entered lockdown and our internal phone communication system allowed our team to remain in constant contact while ensuring that residents and program participants stayed safely in place. Families were notified of the situation as it progressed.
We train and prepare for situations like this so that, if needed, we can respond quickly and calmly to protect our older adults. Our staff acted with professionalism, care, and a deep commitment to the safety of those who live, work and participate in our adult day program.
We are deeply grateful to our dedicated staff, the leadership of JSL, and the rapid response from Jewish Community Security, Inc., local, county and state police and the FBI. Their coordination and support helped ensure that our community remained safe.
As a Jewish community, resilience is part of our shared history and identity. In moments like this, we are reminded that strength comes from standing together, caring for one another, and continuing to live our values openly and proudly. We remain united, vigilant, and committed to the safety and wellbeing of everyone connected to the Jewish Senior Life family.
