What Is Memory Care?

Memory care is specialized care for those with memory loss and other forms of dementia. While family members and close friends are often able to manage caring for loved ones during the early stages, as they inevitably progress, it can be safer to relocate their loved one to a residential memory care facility.

Memory-enhancing activities and specialized care at these communities help seniors with memory loss maximize their abilities and enjoyment. The programs and activities planned in our memory care communities are geared specifically for those with memory impairment.

Our Memory care staff is specially trained on dementia and memory loss, and assist with meals, cueing, redirection, bathing and dressing. Our common areas are architecturally designed for accessibility to best accommodate our residents, while room layouts are designed for those with cognitive impairments in mind.

Environmental security is another key characteristic of memory care facilities. To enhance safety, we have secured entrances and exits along with doorbells that signal entering and exiting to help monitor residents’ whereabouts. Our high staff-to-resident ratio is an integral component in providing 24-hour oversight and personalized care.

What To Expect From A Memory Care Facility

Safety, security, and a home-like environment are what you desire from memory care facilities. Emergency call systems, 24-hour oversight, and personalized care is just the base of our support. Medication administration, assistance with bathing and dressing, along with other activities of daily living, is provided by our professional and caring staff.

We support residents at all stages of their dementia journey, and our person-centered approach allows us to engage each one of them on their own path.

Common areas have been designed specifically with the older adult in mind, and provide a space for residents to socialize and for activities. Socialization and activities help keep our residents engaged and active.

This is your loved one’s home, and they can receive visitors at any time. Our highly trained staff may notice that certain times work better than others and make suggestions. For example, visitors during mealtimes may distract residents from eating or make them uncomfortable if their visitor is not also eating. Staff is available to discuss what would be best for your loved one.

Residents are permitted to leave the community with staff or a designated companion, after they are signed out as a part of our safety measures.

How To Pay For Memory Care

Figuring out how to pay for Memory Care of a loved one can be stressful. Memory Care can be one of the more expensive types of senior living, and several factors contribute to this including the skills and training of staff along with safety and security measures in place. Standard Medicare and Medicaid do not directly cover the costs of the Memory Care communities at JSL. However, some may have long-term care insurance or Veteran’s Benefits, but these policies tend to have many intricacies and limitations.

Our team is here to help navigate the complexities of paying for Memory Care. Schedule a tour today and we can work together to find the right solution for your loved one.
