Look at faded photos of our Matriarchs. Look into their eyes, lined and tired. Many were recent immigrants from Europe. They devoted themselves to performing charitable acts in their community – clothing and feeding the poor, providing care and funds for orphans and widows, and seeing that every Jew had a proper burial.
